+ Gray to white – bleaching jeans

trouve shoes    F21 pants and jewelry   self made top
I bleached the crap out of these pants! I think I could do it one more time, but it was close enough. I bleached it just like I bleached this shirt a while back. I really like these $13 gray pants from forever 21, but when I accidentally spilled bleach on the bottoms, I thought hmmm what the heck?! Bleach the whole dang thing and see what happens. I like how it turned out. And when you pair it with the loose fitted knit top I made, it looks complete.
All I did was let it sit in bleach 2 different times for 45 mins each. I might do it one more time to make it white white. Otherwise the directions are found here.
Lots of projects planned for this next week! I don’t know how I’m going to fit them all in! Excited for you guys to see them!!
Maybe I should have used my washing machine….much more roomy!

  1. The pants look great in white! Genius way to get more use out of a piece of clothing that would otherwise have been ruined. You get my kudos.

  2. Yay! I’m glad to see these turned out. Think I’ll try that on a pair of mine. (I have a bad habit of buying jeans when I really don’t need anymore.)
And congrats on 500! So exciting!

  3. This is an awesome idea! I never would’ve thought. Maybe I’ll do this with some black F21 jeans I bought a while back. F21 jeans smell really weird anyway, so the bleach would probably help that. I love those shoes of yours, by the way!

  6. I have been wanting white skinnies for a while now! This is awesome :)

  7. so, my question is, will they turn white if you bleach blue jeans?? I’ve never bleached anything before!
and they look great on you! white is so perfect for summer! :)

  8. Wow I love this project and the outcome! I just found your blog and I have to say I love it so much! You are gorgeous and your posts are very inspiring :)

  9. Oh I love this! I’ve been longing for a pair of white jeans since what seems like forever, but can’t seem to find one…I never thought of making them myself, but I think that now I might just do it. I wonder if it only works with grey jeans?!? I don’t think I have any, but I have plenty of blue jean pairs…

PS: I have a slight obsession with stripes, and this bright yellow and white combination has me mesmerized :)

  10. I just found your blog through Melissa Esplin–so glad I did!
These pants turned out great, I think I prefer them white. I have a pair of jeans that are a weird blue that I really don’t like. I think I might try this someday…

  11. I love this idea, that I had to post the link to it on my blog. I just found your blog and am really liking all your fashion projects. Great ideas.

  12. I tried this and for some reason it won’t turn white. I started out with light blue jeans. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, and I kept it in twice as long hoping that it would eventually turn white, but it only lightened a little. The fabric also has become very delicate and looks as if it’s going to tear. Any suggestions?

  13. I’ve been wanting to get a white pair of pants…now I can just work with what I’ve got!

  14. Hey,
have you ever colored your white jeans in coffee, to get this vintage camel look?

  15. You are so beautiful *_________*

  16. You mentioned that you wanted to bleach these more, that you didn’t quite like the color. Bleach often leaves a yellow tinge on denim. If you want a whiter look you can run the fabric through a cold-wash cycle with one capful of bluing, which you can find in the laundry section of your grocery store.

  17. I just realized that THIS is probably the best way to have white pants that AREN’T see-through!! I hate when white bottoms are see-through or even on the edge of being see-through. Perfect :)

I did ombre bleach-dyed shorts on my blog! Maybe you would like them?

  18. OMG awesome! What was your bleach to water ratio?

An interesting discussion is definitely worth comment. There’s no doubt that that you should publish more about this topic, it might not be a taboo subject but usually people do not speak about these issues. To the next! Many thanks!!
