I’ve been loving this fun trend, but have yet to try make one! So, I’m planning on making one soon and until then…you guys can make one for yourself! I love how they layer on top of something casual or dressy. Its so versatile and feminine. Have you styled one or made one? Leave and link so I can check it out! I need some ideas!

  5. Great post!

  6. Love this idea! A couple of weeks ago I was perusing etsy and found a shop in India that has really nice fabric patterns:
    http://www.etsy.com/shop/fabricsandtrims?page=4

The BAGH ones are to die for. But they are cotton. Can it be done with a lightweight cotton??
Anyway, please post when you are done! Dying to make one myself.
BTW – made a pair of shorts with your tutorial! So easy, I bought more fabric to make a few more pairs.

  7. People seem to be getting more bolder by the day wearing intimates outside the house…this is nothing but a silky bathrobe…sorry :) I have one exactly like it but I would never be caught dead wearing it out of doors.

  8. AH! I want a long one SO BAD! I don’t feel like making one! haha none of the links are working though…love you

  9. Hey (: This is a marvelous tutorial and I can’t wait to get started! I was just wondering about how many yards of fabric I should get?
    Thanks!

  11. so glad i found this, but what is the + 10′ on the length across the shoulders for? would be great if someone could it explain it to me, thank you.

    • Hannah I was also wondering the same thing but upon looking a bit closer at the photos above I think its just adding some length so the shoulder seams hang a bit down the arm and don’t sit right on top of the shoulder like a jacket would :)

  12. Hello,
I found this DIY kimono tutorial a few weeks ago and have made one for myself :)
I am a fashion/design blogger and have featured it on one of my blog posts.
I hope you don’t mind but I have linked your wonderful tutorial and given you credit, because Im sure there are many people who would love to try making one themselves!
    Many thanks,
    Charlotte Coley

  13. I really want to make this for my sister for Christmas using a lovely fabric I found in a charity shop with an Indonesian pattern. the only problem is the fabric is cotton and not silky smooth like the kimonos I have seen in shops. Do you think it would ruin the look and style if it was made in cotton?
    Thanks.

  14. Good Day, I log on to your blog. Your humoristic style is wonderful, keepup the good work! And you can look our website http://cnflanges.com/ about carbon steel flange manufacturer. Thank you very very much.

I knocked this puppy out this evening! Great tutorial.

I used a light jersey knit, just slightly see-through and followed the 10″ shoulder adjustment suggestion.

The only thing I plan on changing is splitting the back to add a panel or possibly adding a band along the front to provide more coverage. Might be a busty-girl thing, but I found it didn’t hang quite like I would have liked or thought it would. Planning to wear with a DIY convertible maxi skirt/dress.

    Thanks for sharing your pattern!!

  16. This is such a great tutorial. I bought fabric for it just today. I’m wondering if you have any tips for adding a sash? Just a simple strip for tying it together? Thanks!

Thank you for putting these instructions out there. I used them to create a summer bathrobe which has turned out lovely. Have some other fabric, really pretty and sheer, to make another one for daywear.
