+ DIY trousers, in plaid!

Plaid is amazing. And in pant form I’m in love. These pants were pretty easy and the fit me perfectly! Can’t wait to sport them around in something a little more edgy like a leather jacket and graphic tee with a beanie or more feminine with a button up and high heels. Next on my to do list….matching coat! get ready for that! Its happening!

couple yards of fabric
pants you like the fit of
invisible zipper

1. Pull out the point where all 4 seams hit and fold outward really pulling that point outward, this will be done 2 different time, pull outward toward the backside and pulling frontward to the front. Trace the outlines of both sides, making sure to keep the center in the right place when you flip the pant the other direction and lay it down. It will look like the 3rd image below on the right (but obviously the pants won’t be there!).

2. Sew up the inseams of the legs.
3. Pin and sew the front under to back part of pant

4. Seam rip the back open 5 or so inches and insert zipper (look how to do it here)
5. Sew the top under a half inch, then an inch.
6. Add darts to the back if you need them.
7. Hem the bottom.

  1. This is brilliant. I have never seen this before and I am definitely going to do this.

    • I have one question. I have reread this and do I cut out twice using the pants template? I am having a hard time visualizing. Thanks.

      • Yep! If you think about is the template is one leg, the middle of that template is where your side outer seam would be ifyou had one. And the side with the bigger curve part at the top of the template would be where your bum middle zipper seam goes and the smaller curve is where your front middle seam would be. Pants can be very confusing huh?

        • Thank you so much. I missed that there were no side seams. I can’t wait to try these. I have not been able to find a good fitting pair of pants, and all the sewing books that show how to draft a pair from your favorite pair of pants is just too complicated for me to want to figure out.

  2. This is awesome. Pants are my enemy but I’ll give this a try.
